SENIOR CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW – PRIMARY CARE

Grade: E66 £58,672-£72,824 pa

A part-time (equivalent to 2PAs/0.2wte) Senior Clinical Research Fellow is required to join a highly productive research team at the Wolfson Centre for the Prevention of Stroke and Dementia. (CPSD).The post holder will join a team who are working on a range of clinical projects and monitoring of time-trends in incidence and outcome of stroke, coronary events, and other vascular diseases.The successful applicant will focus their research on clinical epidemiology and the primary/secondary prevention of vascular disease in routine general practice, and the role will require up to date knowledge of management of vascular disease in the UK. Under the direction of Professor Peter Rothwell, the post holder will review previously published research and planning analyses of new data as well as analysis of data with assistance from CPSD statisticians. They will be expected to write up reports of CPSD research studies for publication and present results of CPSD research at national and international research meetings.

The Wolfson Centre for the Prevention of Stroke and Dementia is located in the Wolfson Building on the John Radcliffe Hospital site and is part of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN). The main research interests are the prevention of stroke, hypertension, vascular dementia, and in the aetiology of vascular disease more generally. The unit currently comprises 30 researchers and support staff, including senior clinical researchers in neurology and geriatrics, clinical research fellows, statisticians and programmers, research nurses and laboratory scientists.

It is essential that applicants be GMC and MRCGP registered with a licence to practice in the UK. They should also have excellent organisational and communication skills, be able to write concisely, coherently and logically, and have computing experience in Windows, MS Office, Access, Excel, Microsoft Word and SPSS or equivalent statistical software. The post holder will be experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with vascular disease, postgraduate research experience and an established research interest in the clinical epidemiology of vascular disease. They should be a methodical worker, have the ability to use their initiative, be highly motivated and be able to work effectively as part of a team. A higher degree (DPhil/PhD/Md/MPH) would also be desirable.

The post is part-time and fixed-term until 31st August 2022
