Senior Post-doctoral Researcher in Integrative Algebraic and Systems Biology

Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics , Henry Wellcome Building of Genomic Medicine, Roosevelt Drive, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7BN

Grade 8: Salary in range £42,149 – £ 47,419 per annum With reduced responsibilities, this post can be offered as a Grade 7: £33,309 – £40,927 per annum

Applications are invited for the role of Senior Post-doctoral Researcher at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics to apply multiscale algebraic and topological data analysis to understand why some patients with COVID-19 develop severe disease, with the goal of identifying such patients early and treating them in a targeted manner.

You will be responsible for undertaking and leading integrative analysis of data arising from the COMBAT project relating to the host response to COVID-19 infection. You will develop and use cutting-edge methodologies to support such analysis including application of computational and statistical methodologies and algorithms, devising novel approaches to analysis. You will develop and apply techniques from computational algebraic geometry (nonlinear algebra), data tensors, topological data analysis, statistics, optimisation and/or network theory to encode multidimensional and multi-indexed data from COMBAT to identify signatures and cellular drivers of heterogeneity in the host immune response leading to different disease severity.

It is essential that you hold a relevant PhD in Mathematics, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Physics, Computer Science or a related discipline, and have relevant research experience in high dimensional data analysis. You will have experience of, and demonstrated competence in, scientific computing using at least one programming language. It is essential that you are able to organise and prioritise work efficiently delivering results to required standard and to an agreed schedule with high level of attention to detail, and have evidence of problem-solving, working with accuracy, self-motivation and integrity. Demonstrable high level of communication skills both written and oral with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels (of technical knowledge) is also essential for the role.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 12 months and is funded by the UKRI (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council).

Only applications received before 12 midday on 17 February 2022 will be considered. Please quote 155780 on all correspondence.
