Western Art Administrator

Ashmolean Museum, Beaumont Street, Oxford, OX1 2PH

Grade 5: £26,341 – £31,406 per annum

This full-time temporary position arises from the secondment of the current Western Art Administrator to another role (maternity cover) within the Ashmolean. You will offer a key support and administrative role in a curatorial department that is concerned with a range of activities, including gallery displays, exhibitions, public engagement, digitization, research, publications and teaching, and with enhancing the collections through loans and acquisitions. This is an excellent career development opportunity.

You will ensure that an effective administrative service is provided for these activities, including monitoring and managing Departmental finances and maintaining efficient office and filing systems. Co-ordinating and liaising on Western Art activities and procedures, and ensuring good communication within a busy department and across the Museum, are essential to this role. You will often be the first point of contact for public queries or for donors and potential benefactors, requiring high standards of professionalism, responsiveness and confidentiality. You will support the Keeper and senior staff by organizing meetings and events, also ensuring efficient diary management and travel arrangements.

You will have excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage a broad workload efficiently. You will have excellent IT skills with the capacity to use the Oracle financial system and the CMS (Collections Management system) and DAMS (Digital Assets Management system) databases.

This is a fixed-term, full time role working 36.5 hours per week.

You will be required to upload a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs will not be considered.

Only applications received online before 12.00 midday (GMT) on Thursday 2 December 2021 can be considered. Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 16 December 2021. The successful candidate is expected to start by mid-February 2022.
