Duties and Responsibilities
The main purpose of the job is to carry out all duties involved with the provision of a laboratory and building support function, assist the BSS as a member of the Cruciform and Paul OGorman Building Support Services Group, including deliveries, processing of laboratory glassware / waste and assistance with general facilities support.
Duties and responsibilities include to receive deliveries and provide a dispatch service, to check deliveries, identify discrepancies and order originator details, to prepare deliveries and perform a distribution service, to collect laboratory glass / plasticware and waste, to clean and prepare laboratory glass / plasticware. The JH will provide management direction to the 9 x BSS Operatives including allocation of daily duties and organising rotas to cover staff breaks, to operate washing machines, autoclaves, ovens and other associated equipment, assistance with hazardous waste collection and auditing e.g. solvent waste, smalls collections, assistance with Safety inspections where appropriate.
Duration of this post is open ended.
The candidate will be required to understand the implications of complying/not complying with health and safety and best practice, to have understanding of Procurement procedures, to be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and to have excellent oral communication skills.
The candidate is also expected to have management experience, basic maintenance skills, the ability to deal pleasantly and effectively with a wide range of people, the ability to problem solve and make decisions independently as well as the ability to organise and prioritise work.
It is also expected that the candidate has the ability to work safely and effectively without supervision, the ability to plan the work of others, the ability to use initiative, the ability to undertake manual lifting as well as the ability to work safely with hazardous materials.
It is expected that the candidate will support users as required, have the ability to train users in protocols and techniques as required, the willingness to work as part of a team, the willingness and ability to exchange information with team members, internal and external contacts and the commitment to providing a high quality service to internal and external users.
