Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Anthropology at UCL is a research-led department with an international reputation, offering innovative teaching programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

In recent years the department has launched a number of innovative industry-led postgraduate programmes in diverse areas of documentary film making, broadcast, virtual reality and creative enterprise. Due to rapid growth, we are now looking for a part-time Immersive Technician and Demonstrator to support our Masters programme in Immersive Factual Storytelling.

This post sits within Public Anthropology as part of the School for the Cultural and Creative Industries and will be located at UCL East on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from 2023.

The post holder will provide professional technical expertise, support, guidance, advice and practical demonstration in the area of immersive technology for the delivery of technical activities within the Immersive Factual Storytelling (ImFaS) MA in Anthropology.

They will Take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the ImFaS technical areas and also work within virtual teams across other parts of UCL including ISD. They will ensure studio PCs are maintained and prepared, liaise with the Senior AV Technician, Programme Director and tutors, making sure software requirements are met and keep detailed records of software and equipment, as well as creating and maintaining kit inventories.

Key Requirements

Applicants will have proven knowledge and experience of VR fundamentals along with knowledge and experience of specialist camera and spatial audio equipment and IT systems relating immersive media production including relevant specialist software and formats.

They will possess a good understanding of work place safety and safety precautions related to virtual reality use and excellent problem solving skills.
