Duties and Responsibilities

An opportunity has arisen in the Institute of Global Health (IGH) for a Lecturer in Global Health (maternity leave cover post). The primary focus of this post will be on teaching health policy /health systems /public health /social science to our undergraduate and postgraduate global health students. It is anticipated that 70% of the postholders time will be devoted to teaching and 30% to research activities. Applicants should have a background in health policy, health systems, public health, or social sciences as applied to global health (or combinations of these).

IGH has strong research collaborations with other departments and institutes across UCL.

The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in establishing new collaborations and strengthening existing ones in their fields of expertise. Close interaction with colleagues both within and outside of IGH (including our partner organisation in Malawi, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and China) should allow the post-holder to pursue a successful research programme leading to high-quality publications with excellent opportunities for future career development wiithin the world-renowned global health community at UCL.

This is a maternity leave post available from March 2021 to March 2022.

Key Requirements

The candidate should have a PhD in the area of Global Health related to health systems/health policy/public health/social science, or evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications. A Master’s degree in Health Policy, Global Health, Public Health or Social Science. A teaching qualification, such as a postgraduate certificate of learning and teaching in HE, or the Arena qualification Higher Education Academy.

Experience in teaching and research. It is expected that the applicant should have a good track record of teaching in global health, public health, health systems and/or health policy and social sciences as they relate to health. They will be able to demonstrate consistently high levels of student satisfaction with their teaching.

In addition to excellent communication and interpersonal skills they will have enthusiasm for the teaching of global health. The highest ethical and professional standards in research and education and a flexible attitude to collegiate working.
