Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Culture, Communication and Media (CCM) is a department of the Institute of Education. It is committed to excellence in teaching, research and consultancy in the areas of: Media and Cultural Studies, Art, Design and Museology; Academic writing; English education: Applied Linguistics; Music Education; Multimodality studies; Learning with Digital Technologies.

We are seeking an exceptional appointment to the post of Lecturer in Practice-based Research and Media.

You will be based in the UCL Knowledge Lab, a leading interdisciplinary research centre in digital research and design, whose mission it is to understand and to develop digital technologies to support and transform learning and other social practices.

This post is one of the first to be appointed to the new BA Media, a flagship programme for UCLs new campus at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. UCL East will incorporate 12 academic entities with a range of new research and teaching programmes.

Opening in 2022 and 2023, UCL East will unite academic activities across experiments, arts, society and technology, integrating research and education, theory and practice with cross-disciplinarity, innovation and public engagement. More than just a conventional campus, UCL East represents a future focused mindset. We will deliver new research, technology and innovation, and undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes for up to 4,000 students.

This post sits in the School for the Creative and Cultural Industries. The post will initially be based at UCLs Bloomsbury campus, or remotely during COVID-19. It will move to UCL East in 2023.

You will play an important role in the detailed preparation for and delivery of the BA Media, and contribute an important specialism to the range of expertise required by the programme.

In addition to teaching at undergraduate level, you will contribute to Masters and PhD programmes in media, and to research, knowledge exchange and consultancy activities in ReMAP, the KnowledgeLab, and eventually Culture Lab at UCL East.

Key Requirements

You will have a doctorate, completed or close to completion (or comparable research experience), in media arts, film, games, digital art or other relevant fields.

In addition, you will have evidence of potential to produce internationally excellent independent, original, significant and rigorous practice-based research.
