Duties and Responsibilities
The UCL Department of Mathematics invites applications from candidates for the post Lecturer (Teaching) in Mathematics. The successful candidates will be expected to teach courses at undergraduate level in Mathematics, allocated by the Head of Department and reviewed from time to time by the Head of Department. Assist in the development of learning materials, preparing schemes of work and maintaining records to monitor student progress, achievement and attendance.
The responsibilities of the post will include: to participate in the development, administration and marking of exams and other assessments and attend examiners meetings, act as second examiner and carry out exam-related instructions as allocated by the Chair of the Department Undergraduate Examination Board, assist the Admissions Tutor with interviews/open days for UCAS applicants.
The department has internationally recognised research groups in pure and applied analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry and society.
The post is available from 26 September 2022 and is for 3 years in the first instance.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate should have a PhD or equivalent qualification in mathematics or related subject area, they must be able to demonstrate teaching ability in mathematics at degree and/or masters level and have the interpersonal skills required to work well with students and academic colleagues. Have the ability to supervise academic work by undergraduate students, ability to deliver Mathematics lectures at undergraduate level, as well as have the ability to teach undergraduate tutorials. They will have an excellent oral and written communication skills and show commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students.
An outstanding candidate will have experience of teaching mathematics at undergraduate level and experience of teaching using remote working technologies.
