Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching) to join our programme team of around ten academic and professional services staff. Our small team has a broad reach, connecting with academics, committees and professional communities across several UCL departments and divisions, as well as externally with the UK Society for Natural Sciences, of which UCL is a founder member.

This is a full- time (1.0 FTE) appointment for a period of 36 months continuously as soon as possible in the first instance. The post may be renewable subject to financial approval.

The main purpose of this role is to contribute to the development and delivery of the Natural Sciences core curriculum, particularly in areas related to science and society. Areas covered may include science communication, public engagement, science outreach, ethical issues and integrity in science research; however it is expected that the successful candidate will shape the role based on their interests and experience.

You will also work with colleagues on the preparation and implementation of a Departmental Enhancement Plan to address targets in areas such as careers and employability, inclusivity, and the learning community.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field or similar interdisciplinary field and be able to demonstrate a high level of science communication as appropriate for teaching, science and society studies. They will have excellent oral and written communication skills and a commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students.
