Duties and Responsibilities

The UCL Centre for Educational Leadership has a national and global impact in transforming education through leadership excellence. We are the UKs largest university-based centre for research, teaching, development and innovation in educational leadership.

Located in the UCL Institute of Education, we are a world-leading centre for knowledge creation, exchange and application for improving the quality of leadership, management and learning in education in London, the UK, and internationally.

We provide research-informed guidance to educational leaders, managers and policy makers, focused on the impact of their strategies and actions.

We are the largest enterprise centre within the IoE and our work includes the National Professional Qualifications for School Leadership, the Early Career Teacher Programmes (Early Career Framework) and a wide range of national and international knowledge exchange and consultancy programmes.

This senior post is primarily responsible for leading aspects of our portfolio of consultancy and bespoke leadership development programmes in the UK and internationally. Our international clients include governments, NGOs, donor funding agencies, and groups of international schools. In the UK we work with local authorities, professional associations, the independent school sector, MATs and groups of schools.

The role will include developing consultancy solutions and leading the design and/or delivery of programmes in response to client requirements. The post holder will also be expected to contribute across our full portfolio of school leadership and teacher development programmes.

The post holder is responsible for maintaining/building relationships with clients at the highest level and should be comfortable with working with senior officials and ministerial teams.

Key Requirements

You should have a good understanding of current education policy and have a detailed understanding of the structural reforms that have taken place across the school system in England over the last decade.

You will have a successful career that includes school leadership, and a track record of working collaboratively with schools to design and deliver professional learning that makes a difference to teachers, to the organisations in which they work and ultimately to their pupils.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with other programme leaders in the centre and will lead multiple teams, including virtual project teams of associates. When the Covid situation allows, some international travel will be required, for example to mainland Europe, China, South East Asia and the Middle East.
