Duties and Responsibilities
UCL Department of Computer Science – Touch Lab houses a multidisciplinary team of computer scientists, physicists and engineers developing imaging and micromanipulation techniques for a range of life science applications from fundamental neurobiology to medical diagnostics.
The successful candidate will work with other researchers in Touch lab and clinical collaborators from UCLH to develop computational microscopy hardware and data analysis tools for visualisation and analysis of histological tissue sections.
Primary responsibilities will include: microscope design, build and testing; writing software to control microscope hardware; the development of computational image analysis pipelines; documentation of results and presentation to clinical collaborators.
The post is funded until March 2022 in the first instance.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject such as computer science, physics or engineering. They will be proficient in a relevant computer programming language (such as Python or MATLAB) and have experience with optical microscopy, computational image analysis (including the application of machine learning techniques), and software control of scientific instruments such as digital cameras, motorised stages and light sources (LEDs / lasers).
Experience of working with clinical / biological samples is desirable.
