Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking for a talented scientist with strong quantitative skills in epidemiology and computer programming, in R, Stata or similar language. The UK-China Health and Social Challenges Ageing Project (UKCHASCAP) will model dementia, disability and life expectancy to 2060 in both countries. The post holder will analyse longitudinal and cross-sectional epidemiological data for input to the simulation model, program the model and write up outputs derived from the simulations.

Later steps in the project will add economic and prevention scenario estimation to the Markov model. They will be encouraged and supported to take the lead in the research, and on writing papers. Team collaboration across departments and universities is essential to the success of UKCHASCAP.

Duration of the post is funded until 14th August 2023 in the first instance.

Key Requirements

Relevant PhD degree (awarded or expected imminently) e.g. epidemiology, biostatistics or related quantitative discipline or equivalent research experience. High quality academic research using appropriate statistical methods to analyse large datasets, and statistical packages such as STATA, SAS, MLwin, R at high level are all essential requirements.

Please note: appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary 31,542 – 33,257 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
