Duties and Responsibilities

UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE), is a multidisciplinary department with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Research Fellow to work on an exciting new collaborative project aiming at providing the comprehensive link between micro- and macro-behaviour for real sands.

The Research Fellow will carry out an in-depth theoretical and experimental investigation of the contact mechanics and contact area of granular materials including sands, liaise actively with the project partners at the University of Nottingham, and contribute to publications and progress reports on the research for peer-reviewed international journals and for funding bodies.

The appointment is available from 1 December 2021 and is funded in the first instance until 30 November 2024.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Civil Engineering or relevant subject area, experience of soil testing in the laboratory, particularly triaxial testing, and solid knowledge of soil mechanics. Strong competency in mathematical and analytical skills is also essential. A track record in publishing high-quality research would be an advantage.
