Duties and Responsibilities
Research Services provides a range of comprehensive services and specialist advice in support of UCLs externally funded research portfolio.
The Research Finance Manager role is responsible for managing a team of Research Finance Administrators (5-6 FTE) in the Post Award team. The team coordinates, manages and provides guidance and support on all aspects of post award research grant and contract management of project finances. They ensure compliance with internal financial regulations and the terms and conditions of external research funders. Supporting academic and professional staff to ensure the University maximises research income and mitigates risk.
The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the team to ensure the support service functions are delivered in an efficient, responsive and professional manner, to the highest possible standards. They will monitor policies and quality standards, procedures and systems for the post award management to ensure effective working and continuous improvement. They will ensure robust financial management and compliance throughout the research award lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience of research grant and contract financial administration as well as managerial experience in a large and complex institution. You will be highly organised with the ability to handle a diverse and busy workload and to prioritise effectively to meet demanding and often conflicting deadlines. Strong leadership skills and the ability to effect and manage change will be essential. You will also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deal diplomatically and effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels, and be able to play a leading role within a team whose support services are in constant demand.
