The Department of Earth Sciences, University of Cambridge seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Climate Modelling. We encourage applications from individuals with expertise in the use of numerical modelling to understand the Earth’s climate system, with an emphasis on the use of numerical models to translate our understanding of the Earth’s past climate system into solutions to Earth’s present and future climate challenges. Candidates who are, in addition, able to apply their numerical modelling to the study of climate systems on other planets are also encouraged.
We welcome applicants with a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Earth Sciences or allied disciplines. They should be able to demonstrate an outstanding record of research and its communication in a relevant subject and demonstrate their potential to establish a vigorous research programme at an international level, identifying opportunities for their research to be supported by external grant funding.
The appointed candidate will contribute to our rigorous and vibrant programme of teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate levels and should demonstrate their desire and potential to help inspire future generations of scientists through the delivery of the highest quality education.

The appointments will be made at an appropriate salary for Assistant Professorship (Grade 9), with review after five years and appointment as Associate Professor (Grade 9) to the retiring age thereafter. Further opportunities for promotion to Associate Professor (Grade 10), Professor (Grade 11) and Professor (Grade 12) are available through the University’s Academic Career Pathways scheme.
