Maternity cover, fixed-term from April 2021 until 6 May 2022 or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.

The Office of the School of the Physical Sciences is seeking a skilled administrator and manager to cover the Maternity Leave of the current Deputy Secretary of the School. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for career development in our successful School Office team. This senior role supports the academic Director of Education, handling all the Office’s work on the Education portfolio, as well as leading the operational side of the Office, and supporting the School Secretary across the range of strategic issues the School faces. There is also the opportunity to take forward specific projects which may involve working with particular Departments or on particular policy issues.

This is an excellent chance for a talented individual to advance their career. The School Office provides a unique perspective on the operation of the University, working closely with both the central administration and also the eight academic Departments of the School, who are at the forefront of delivering exceptionally high-quality teaching and groundbreaking research.

The role requires experience of staff management and managing change, but most of all the ability to pick-up new issues, in policy or operations, and take them forward to the benefit of the School and its Departments. Candidates should be qualified to at least first degree level or equivalent. A qualification in a Physical Science subject is emphatically not a requirement for the post.

Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University, as well as from external candidates.

The closing date for applications is midnight 28 February 2021, with interviews expected to take place around a week later.
