Dr Meredith Crowley is looking for a full-time Research Assistant starting July 2021 for 3 months. The successful candidate should have an MPhil, MSc, or BA degree in economics or econometrics. The position will be based at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge, but will also require travel to London to work in the HMRC datalab.
The candidate will conduct research on international trade, trade agreements, international pricing, and related areas. The tasks fall into two categories: model simulation through computer programming and empirical estimation. The model simulation tasks include building and simulating multi-country models with heterogeneous firms and sectors; calibrating the model to match empirical moments; and conducting counterfactual analyses. Experience with MATLAB, Julia or a similar computer programming software is essential. The empirical estimation tasks include merging large datasets, data cleaning, especially of large administrative dataset, and writing and executing estimation code in stata. Experience in cleaning data, especially large administrative datasets, is essential.
The ideal candidate should have a background of academic work in International Economics especially:
(i) a strong quantitative background and experience in solving large heterogeneous agent models;
(ii) strong programming skills – experience in using the programming language Julia is highly preferred;
(iii) the ability to work independently to solve problems.
Successful candidates will be employed on University Grade 5 for Research Assistants, starting at £26,715 to £30,942 per annum.
