The Information and Computing Services (ICS) group provides a unified IT service that has the flexibility to meet the Department’s evolving strategic and operational needs. ICS is structured into teams, each with a specific technical or geographic focus, and each led by a member of the ICS management team, with the management team being led by the Head of ICS. Staff assignment to a particular team may be adjusted to meet changing demand, and to enable the flexibility of the overall service. Likewise, projects and services are delivered by staff drawn from across the teams to assemble the best available skills and experience for the work.
This role is responsible for delivering the IT vision of the department, and providing management and leadership to a varied team of IT technical specialists. The role-holder will be accountable for the delivery of the multiple complex IT projects by their team, and will take the lead in defining with the senior stakeholders of the department the forward work plan. There will be special focus on IT enabled process improvement, simplification and efficiency in the core administration of the department, whilst at the same time ensuring that educational and research goals are enabled with up-to-date and relevant IT applications, tools and support.
You will be educated to degree level, or have an equivalent level of practical experience, and will likely hold a professional qualification in an appropriate IT delivery standard, such as ITIL service framework or PRINCE2 methodology. The successful candidate will have strong strategic thinking and planning skills with evidence of working both strategically and operationally to lead and embed organisation-wide change. You will be an experienced people manager with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organisation, and experience of running an IT operational team/project team is essential.
