We are seeking a helpful and efficient Senior Computing Technician. The role will be based in the BP Institute and the person appointed will play a key role in providing professional IT support service to all members of the BPI this includes 6 group PIs, around 15 postdocs, 30 PhD students and a number of other support staff.

They will be responsible for providing first and second line support for the IT services of the Institute, including support of desktops/laptops, the applications commonly used by BPI researchers, the reliable operation of shared peripherals and for problem solving of some complex technical issues. As well as supporting the day-to-day IT needs of the BP Institute, the person appointed will also maintain/update the website of the BP Institute, they will have to communicate confidently with both senior academic staff, researchers, graduate students and other members of the support staff team and will be approachable with the ability to interact effectively, both in-person and by electronic means. Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent people-skills, have the ability to prioritise work effectively, be well organised, flexible in approach, and be prepared to work on their own initiative.

The key responsibilities of the roles include:1. Provide support for the IT platforms used in the Institute: Linux, Windows and Mac ;2. Advise on IT purchases and play a key part in the procurement, installation, configuration, decommissioning and disposal of IT equipment; 3. Manage and support user access to software resources, peripherals, and data used in the Institute;4. Provide support in develop scripts and code to improve delivery of IT services and the Institute’s research activities.5. Maintain the website of the BP Institute

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
