We are looking for an enthusiastic person with a solid financial background to join our friendly team as as Finance Coordinator. The role holder is responsible for the management of all aspects of finance underpinning the department. The successful candidate will manage a part-time Accounts Assistant to provide this full range of accounting infrastructure.

The department’s budget currently amounts to £3 million. For 2020-21 spend on research grants amounted to £5,541,336 (including salaries) and on other accounts expenditure for the same period amounts to over £500,000. The Department of Psychology currently holds 100 active research grants (includes studentships) with a variety of sponsors from Research Councils to Industrial contracts with a total value of over £36 million.

This position calls for initiative, a high level of accuracy and an ability to work systematically and to deadlines. The post holder will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to liaise between academics and administrators, and to prioritise many competing demands.

The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, whilst achieving accuracy and paying attention to detail, is imperative. The post holder will need to work on their own initiative as well as working within the support staff team to assist all aspects of the departments activities.

Applicants should educated to at least A level standard or equivalent and preferably be AAT level 4 diploma qualified. They should have previous experience working in a financial environment. A good working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel, is essential. The post holder will preferably be familiar with use of Oracle on-line financial systems, but full training will be provided where necessary.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
