We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated full-time Research Assistant interested in studying the roles of multiple co-occurring mutation combinations in paediatric brain tumour development using both in vitro and in vivo approaches. The person appointed will join the group of Dr Manav Pathania (Department of Oncology and CRUK Children’s Brain Tumour Centre of Excellence; https://crukcambridgecentre.org.uk/research/programmes/neuro-oncology/research-groups) and will be based in the Milner Institute and the CRUK Cambridge Institute at the Addenbrooke’s Biomedical Campus.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject. Candidates that have a strong background in the following two broad areas of expertise are encouraged to apply: (1) molecular biology, biochemistry, stem cell culture and FACS, or (2) histology/tissue processing, confocal microscopy, transgenics and mouse colony management. Knowledge of mammalian neurobiology or developmental biology is not necessary but would be very beneficial.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a basic science and multidisciplinary approach to translational cancer research. All candidates should have an excellent aptitude for research and career development. We are especially looking for applicants with a self-starter mentality, who combine a perceptive and resourceful approach with an ability to work independently. A strong desire to design, execute, and interpret your own experiments is essential. The ability to think creatively and develop workaround approaches when faced with the challenges that may arise while conducting pioneering new research is also highly desirable.

If the project develops within these 6 months, there may be subject to funding being available, the possibility to extend the position for a further 12-18 months to ensure completion of the project.
