Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) in the Department of Engineering, to work on the development of new methods to structure Li-Ion battery electrodes as part of an ERC Consolidator Grant. The post holder will be located at the University of Cambridge in the group of Prof. Michael De Volder (www.nanomanufacturing.eng.cam.ac.uk/).
This role will focus on the development of advanced methods to structure battery materials into advanced architectures that allow for better ion and electron transport in thick Li-Ion battery electrodes. Key responsibilities of the candidate include the development of novel methods to synthesise and structure battery materials. In addition, the advanced electrode coating techniques pursued in this project need to be compatible with roll-to-roll coating to ensure compatibility with industrial manufacturing processes. To test this, a pilot-scale roll-to-roll coater is available in the group of Prof. Michael De Volder.
We will consider candidates with various research backgrounds including engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, and material science. Applicants are required to have a PhD or be close to obtaining a PhD and have relevant experience in some of the following areas: battery electrode coating, electrode structuring, roll-to-roll coating, battery fabrication as well as electrochemistry and material characterisation.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £27,116 – £31,406Research Associate: £33,309 – £40,927
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
