A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, to work on Probabilistic Computation Hardware for Measurement-Driven Systems. The duration of the position is 12 months in the first instance with possibility for extension.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK. Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in electrical/computer engineering or computer science.

The key responsibilities and duties are to lead new research investigating the application of a new prototype processor to applications in machine learning, applications in real-time sensor data processing, and applications in variational quantum algorithms on noisy intermediate-scale quantum computers. The role holder will additionally be required to participate in the evolution of the underlying processor microarchitecture of the research platform.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are excellent communication skills, ability to formulate their own solutions to research and engineering challenges and to look at them from unconventional perspectives, and a willingness to work in a dynamic and fast-paced research environment.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,715 – £30,942 Research Associate: £32,816 – £40,322

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
