A position exists for a Research Assistant /Research Associate in the Centre for Industrial Sustainability to work on the Standardising Environmental Metrics for Food Businesses Going Beyond Legal Compliance (SEEBEYOND) project, funded by the Environment Agency via BEIS Regulators’ Pioneer Funds.
This project focuses on developing standardised environmental metrics to help food businesses improve environmental performance going beyond legal compliance. The post holder will conduct critical assessment on various methodologies, metrics and standards for measuring environmental performance at company-, site- and product-level. Meanwhile, the post holder will also support the development of standardised environmental metrics for food and drink businesses.
We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher with an excellent understanding of environmental impacts of food sector and advanced skills in developing environmental metrics. You will be an excellent communicator, with enthusiasm for working with colleagues in different disciplines and an interest in addressing real-world problems.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a PhD (or close to obtaining) in Engineering, Environmental Science, Ecology, Computer Science, Operations Management, Quality Management, Design or other relevant disciplines or a related scientific discipline, and research experience in all or some of the following areas:
- Data analytics
- Systematic literature review
- Life cycle analysis
- Input-output analysis
- Material flow analysis
- Assessment of conservation
- Carbon footprint calculation
- Water footprint calculation
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience). Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Research Assistant: £27,116 – £31,406. Research Associate: £33,309 – £40,927.
The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2022 in the first instance.
