We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic researcher to take the technical lead on a new imaging project. The role is funded by the radiation research network of Cancer Research UK (“RadNet”). RadNet aims to tackle major challenges in radiobiology and radiation oncology. Within RadNet, a network-wide collaborative effort has been established to bridge the gap between preclinical radiotherapy research and cutting-edge clinical practice.

This role will be the technical lead on the “MIGRATES” project. MIGRATES will develop and deploy a user-friendly framework for multi-modal image co-registration for radiotherapy planning. It is based on a system-agnostic cradle for accurate physical co-registration of preclinical imaging data. The role-holder will adapt an existing cradle hardware and image acquisition / registration software to improve maintenance and monitoring of physiological status of experimental animals during in vivo imaging under anaesthesia and provide artifact-free MRI data. They will also be responsible for installing and optimizing these systems for use with the pre-clinical MRI, PET/CT and SARRP image-guided irradiator systems locally at the CRUK Cambridge Institute, and later for transferring the technology to collaborating centres at Leeds and Glasgow.

The outcome of the project will be improvement of image co-registration during preclinical radiotherapy, which will enable optimization of clinically-relevant radiotherapy plans and improved evaluation of imaging biomarkers of radiotherapy response.

The successful candidate should have experience in small animal MRI and must have experience in constructing and troubleshooting electronic equipment (although access to an electronics workshop is available). A recent PhD graduate in pre-clinical imaging with electronics experience and an interest in learning a wider range of modalities would suit the role well. Previous experience with pre-clinical imaging and a Home Office license would be desirable. The successful candidate should have the demonstrable ability to undertake active management of research collaboration across several Institutions.
