Applications are invited for Research Laboratory Technician position based in a modern facility in South Cambridge. As part of a hardworking and friendly team, you will be actively involved in the supporting metabolic phenotyping studies for research groups based within the Metabolic Research Laboratories MRC-Institute of Metabolic Science (MRL MRC-IMS). Your duties will include simple scientific procedures in support of metabolic research, record keeping, equipment maintenance and following relevant governance such as Home Office legislation and University health and safety policies. You will occasionally be required to work weekends and some bank holidays.

You will have GCSE at grade C and above, ideally in Maths, English, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. An NVQ in Animal welfare/IAT Level 2 is desirable. Some experience of working in a designated establishment with laboratory animals and/or an animal environment is an advantage. You must have the ability to work within a team and on your own with minimum supervision. An honest, conscientious approach, the ability to work to deadlines with attention to detail and the ability to carry out a number of versatile tasks are essential.

Training will be provided and there is the opportunity to work to achieve IAT Level 3 Diploma in Laboratory Animal Science & Technology.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2023 in the first instance.
