Applications are invited for the position of Senior Clerk and Outreach Coordinator (part-time, 14.6 hpw), which is available with immediate effect. The role is to provide administrative and outreach support to the members of the Cambridge Group for the History of Population and Social Structure (Campop). Campop is an interdisciplinary research group, founded in 1964, dedicated to historical demography and social and economic history with a population lens. Campop members include university teaching officers who are employed to deliver teaching and conduct research, post-doctoral researchers who work on their own projects or larger projects run by university teaching officers, and PhD students. Campop is based in the Department of Geography and the Faculty of History, and this post will be based in the Department of Geography under the direction of Campop’s Co-Director in Geography, Professor Alice Reid.
The post-holder will have a varied portfolio of tasks including assisting with the organisation of seminars and conferences; maintaining the library (a specialist library of c.7,200 books and 15,000 offprints and other archival materials); providing assistance to academic visitors and library users; creating and maintaining web pages associated with research and outreach activities; establishing and maintaining links with educational organisations to promote development of public engagement and educational outreach activities; contributing to the design, delivery and evaluation of materials for public outreach activities.
The successful applicant should be educated to degree level or have equivalent relevant experience and have excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and self-manage their workload and be able to work well under pressure. They will have experience of minute taking and compiling reports, supporting conferences and meetings, coupled with experience with outreach and communication for academic projects. They must have excellent IT skills including proficiency in the Microsoft Office packages and experience of filing systems, archiving or library management.
Limited funding: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2023 in the first instance.
