University Biomedical Services has an exciting new opportunity to join the team as a Senior Software Developer for the Mouse Colony Management System (MCMS).

The MCMS is a laboratory management database provided as Software as a Service (SaaS) to academic and commercial establishments that use Model Organisms (for example rodents) for scientific research. You shall work as part of a small but busy team of Software Developers and User Support Engineers to develop new features and enhancements, while acquiring a sound understanding of the whole system in order to support and maintain the software. You will work with client establishments and focus groups to understand what needs to be built and to provide support with planning and development of necessary changes within the software.

The role holder will install and test new versions of system software while ensuring the resolution of potential and actual service problems. This shall include contributing to the development of solution architectures in specific business, infrastructure or functional areas and supporting change programs and projects through the preparation of technical plans and application of design principles that comply with enterprise and solution architecture standards (including security).

We are looking for a candidate who is educated to degree level in a scientific subject or have equivalent experience. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and proficiency with software development processes including understanding of system and software specifications in order to choose appropriate designs to meet requirements. You will have experience with RDBMS databases, preferably Oracle, and in-depth understanding of asset architecture to systematically design, solve and debug complex business problems by writing simple but effective code. You will have the ability to work proactively and independently as well as part of a team with drive and commitment to see activities through to completion meeting deadlines matching pace to the urgency of the situation.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check.
