University Biomedical Services (UBS) have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced and motivated individual to join the team in a new Strategic Planning and External Collaborations Manager role to manage and deliver upon arrangements and contracts necessary for the support of biomedical research within the University.

Reporting to the Operations Director you will be responsible for the mapping and guiding strategy for the long-term use and occupancy of the University biomedical research facilities. You shall represent the University, meeting with current and prospective research users as well as others within the University to discuss and plan future strategic needs across the UBS facilities; how they will fit with the estates and making suggestions for change as appropriate.

You will manage projects to facilitate new research activity ensuring that operational and service requirements of users can be met, as well as overseeing the management and delivery of all necessary contracts, sub-contracts and other contractual agreements between the University and research users for the use of University biomedical research facilities. This will require close liaison with users, the UBS Directorate and other key stakeholders from across the University (for example University Finance, University Legal Services) to assess user requirements; completing financial modelling, delivering business plans and gap analyses, assessing and minimising risk, as well as providing advice and guidance to all. You shall be required to draft, review and negotiate contracts such as agreements covering cost recovery, collaborations, confidentiality and material transfer, protecting the University’s interests and liability whilst carrying out all necessary due diligence to ensure compliance with all University policies and legislative requirements, including those specific to biomedical research.

You will be educated with a relevant degree or hold a relevant Level 6 vocational qualification, or have equivalent experience. This role will be suited to an individual who is highly organised able to manage a demanding workload with conflicting deadlines. You will have substantial experience developing negotiating and executing legal and other contractual agreements, including experience preparing and presenting senior committee papers to inform decision making. Experience within a University or research environment is highly desirable, as is holding a financial qualification with experience preparing costings and financial proposals. Experience of biomedical research whilst not essential would be an advantage.

You will be an excellent communicator, able to communicate confidently utilising influencing and negotiating skills effectively where necessary. You will be able to interpret and understand legal and contractual information which shall be both detailed and complex, conveying this onto a non-specialist audience. You will also be able to coordinate information from a variety of sources, analysing and address specifications and issues ensuring agreements are legal and comply with both University policy and all necessary legislative requirements. A high degree of tact and diplomacy and confidentially are essential for this role.

The role is available immediately and subject to a 9 month probationary period.
