The Institute of Criminology at the University of Cambridge seeks to appoint two Assistant Professors in Criminology due to the forthcoming retirement of two Professors, to start on 1 October 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. We welcome applications from candidates in any area of research in criminology or criminal justice.

As Assistant Professor, you will join a multidisciplinary and cross-cutting research and teaching environment. With a PhD or equivalent postgraduate qualification in criminology or a cognate discipline, you will be expected to have an outstanding record of research and show evidence for the ability to develop a successful research programme of international stature. You will also contribute to our vibrant and diverse teaching programmes including the development, management and delivery of undergraduate and graduate courses, supervision, and examinations. At a later stage, you may be expected to contribute to the administration of the Institute.

To ensure that the Institute continues to deliver world-leading research, we seek to appoint one applicant with particular expertise in qualitative and interpretive research paradigms and another with particular expertise in conducting research rooted in quantitative and hypothesis-driven research paradigms. Both candidates will be expected to add to the profile of substantive research areas of the Institute. We also encourage applications from candidates with expertise across methodological domains.

Applicants should submit:

  • A statement covering your current and future aspirations for research and teaching, identifying, where possible, how these fit within the current research profile of the Institute (max 1000 words)
  • Contact details of three referees.
