Applications are invited for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Cambridge with effect from 1 May 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department offers excellent facilities for teaching and research, and has particular interests in cell signalling, cancer, pain, macromolecular structure, neuropharmacology and vascular pharmacology.

We are seeking to recruit within the broad field of pharmacology, and particularly in the fields of inflammation and immunity, or computational pharmacology. The role holder will be based in central Cambridge.

The key duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • giving lectures and seminars and supervising undergraduate / postgraduate students
  • course development and innovation
  • taking an active part in examinations
  • carrying out innovative research and writing papers on topics relevant to the specialist subject area (this will include journals, books and other material)
  • obtaining external research grant funding.

We are looking for outstanding candidates whose research interests will strengthen the current profile of pharmacology in the Department and who will also complement research in the University through collaboration.

The successful applicant will have an excellent record of research and will be expected to develop an ambitious, high quality and externally funded research programme at an international level. Interdisciplinary and collaborative research is strongly encouraged across the University and its associated institutes.

Candidates must demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels within the Department and will be expected to contribute to and develop courses within the general area of pharmacology, covering both specialised and core material.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in a relevant subject, post-doctoral experience and strong evidence of research excellence.

Appointments will be made at either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level with a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter subject to satisfactory progress.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure, a security check and a health assessment. Whether the outcome is satisfactory will be determined by the University.
