UK Data Archive

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Business Analyst at the UK Data Archive following the formation of a new team within the Technical Services directorate.

The UK Data Archive is the lead partner of the UK Data Service, which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) to meet the data needs of researchers, students and teachers from all sectors, including academia, central and local government, charities and foundations, independent research centres, think tanks, and business consultants and the commercial sector.

Duties of the Role

The Business Analyst will work within the Change team to provide a key requirement to the organisation by working between Technical Services and stakeholders to improve and develop a range of information systems to support the strategy of the UK Data Archive.

They will investigate commissioning new systems as well as improving existing processes and situations, considering business and user perspectives, analyse business problems and processes and evaluate options. They will report to senior management, and clearly communicate their proposals, and successfully engage with staff and achieve buy-in to projects. They will engage with the Project Manager to enable them to design effective plans for carrying out projects.

This post is fixed-term until 30 September 2022 due to a temporary funding source. There is the possibility of an extension.

A job share arrangement for this role can be considered. Please provide details on your application of which hours and days you are available to work. Please note that continuation of a job share arrangement is dependent on there being two people available to undertake the arrangement.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful applicant will hold a degree in a relevant IT related field or possess equivalent experience. They will hold a high-level qualification in business analysis and have had experience working within formal project management frameworks. They will be able to produce a clear business case and be able to model and document requirements in a variety of methods. They will have an excellent level of IT literacy and should have experience working withing a FitSM or ITIL environment.

Since they will be required to manage relationships with stakeholders, they will have excellent interpersonal skills and a long history of developing excellent working relationships with staff at all levels of an organisation. They will need to be able to work independently without close supervision and deliver work packages within deadlines.
