Job description
Essex Food – Our mission

Are you looking for an exciting and flexible role leading a team within a fast paced environment?

Our kitchens are dynamic, faced paced and high volume – if you have the personality to strive in an environment like this, with previous experience in a premium food led business, this is the place for you.

Our aim is to deliver a food service standard which reflects and supports the University’s core values of excellence, quality, creativity and diversity across the full range of catering facilities our in-house team provides.

We aim to provide a broad range of high quality, value for money food and hospitality facilities across the university for students, staff and visitors. Our 12 catering outlets are spread across the campus and range from Street food huts on our squares to High Street style eateries and coffee shops.

Our focus is on using local fresh produce, providing value for money and supporting an ethical approach to sustainability and traceability. We are committed to ensuring that our services meet the needs of our diverse and multicultural community on campus.

Duties of the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and passionate Chef Manager to head up one of our fantastic Eateries at our Colchester Campus.

You will be leading a team of Chef’s, ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the kitchen. The successful candidate will ensure the department delivers customer satisfaction through exceptional food quality, utilising local fresh produce, recognising the importance of plant-based foods and using them to produce menus of change.

Chef Manager

We are looking for a passionate individual with a hunger for all things food to join us as a Chef Manager.

You will need excellent communication skills and a can do attitude, who is passionate about the catering industry, follows food trends and is able to influence those around you to do the same.

A strong focus of team leading and support is key to the role, together with a strong creative focus on implementation of new concepts and menus.

As Chef Manager you will have excellent business acumen in order to manage a well-run kitchen, keeping on top of stock, GP% and labour controls. Don’t worry there will be plenty of help along the way.

Applicants should be passionate and motivated, leading by example and able to motivate and develop both the catering offer and the team.

Please note that this advert is part of a rolling recruitment campaign. Applications will be reviewed regularly prior to the proposed closing date and interview dates arrange according to your availability.
