Job description

The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences

The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences was formed in August 2017 and offers provision relating to physiotherapy, sports therapy, sports and exercise sciences and sports performance and coaching. It is also home to the Human Performance Unit.

Duties of the Role

The post of laboratory technician will be to support the running of the laboratories in the School, providing support to staff and students using the facilities and actively managing the equipment located within the laboratories. You will be required to carry out duties across all degree schemes in the School, both undergraduate and postgraduate, and will require working in multiple laboratories situated in several different locations across the University Campus.

Producing guidance materials such as the laboratory manual/handbook for students, and contributing towards the induction process for new students, attending Welcome events and procuring and ordering of equipment and supplies, ordering goods using the Unit 4 purchasing system in accordance with the University’s financial regulations are some of the duties of the post.

Skills and qualifications required

The successful candidate will have HNC or equivalent experience and will be educated to A level standard in a relevant subject area, or have relevant experience.

Experience of working in a relevant technical context, experience in basic Health and Safety management of a designated work area and being proficient in the of IT (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, email etc) are essential requirements for his post.

We are looking for someone with good technical acumen along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

This post will provide additional term-time support for our technician team. The successful applicant will be required to work full-time (36 hours per week) for 31 weeks of the year, to include the Autumn Term (September/October to December) and the Spring Term (January to March/April).
