Job description
Essex Food – Our mission

Our aim is to deliver a food service standard which reflects and supports the University’s core values of excellence, quality, creativity and diversity across the full range of catering facilities our in-house team provides.

We aim to provide a broad range of high quality, value for money food and hospitality facilities across the university for students, staff and visitors. Our 12 catering outlets are spread across the campus and range from Street food huts on our squares to High Street style eateries and coffee shops.

Our focus is on using local fresh produce, providing value for money and supporting an ethical approach to sustainability and traceability.

We are committed to ensuring that our services meet the needs of our diverse and multicultural community on campus.

Duties of the role

Essex Food recognise the importance of robust stock management that supports a focused central procurement policy and we are looking for somebody to lead this function. This exciting new opportunity involves managing and coordinating all food, beverage, cleaning and consumables stock in all Essex Food business units. You will have the exciting opportunity managing a small team and working collaboratively with our chefs and all staff responsible for purchasing.

You will be required to negotiate supply contracts and maintain strong relationships with new and existing suppliers to help develop efficient supply chains.

Appointment to this post will be made on a permanent, full-time basis (43 hours per week). You will work 5 out of 7 days, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends. This will predominantly be Monday – Friday (7.6 hours per day), however you will need to be flexible to accommodate for business requirements.

Please see full duties of the post in the attached job pack.

Qualifications and Skills required

In order to be successful, you will have experience of stock management and staff management across a multisite operation. You will have the ability to enter, analyse and report on purchasing and stock data, with strong strategic planning and organisational skills. We also require a manager with excellent negotiation and communication skills, including demonstrable experience of negotiating effectively with internal and external business partners. It is essential that you have a minimum of 5 GCSE at grades A-C or equivalent, including English and Mathematics.

If you are methodical in your approach to work, and have good IT skills this may be an ideal job for you.

Why you should work for us

As well as working in a friendly team, at Essex Food we offer generous benefits to our employees, and promote a work life balance. Employees receive a generous pension and annual leave entitlement along with the University’s mandatory Christmas closure. We provide all employees with training and development opportunities.
